Epilepsy centre hosts March events
Posted Feb 25, 2010 By EMC NewsEMC Events - Did you know that epilepsy and seizure disorders affect more than 300,000 Canadians and 50 million people worldwide.
That's more than multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and Parkinson's disease combined.
In addition, one in 10 people will have a seizure during his or her lifetime. Here in Leeds and Grenville, there are an estimated 1,600 people that are affected by seizure disorders.
Despite being a major national health concern, the public is often unable to recognize common seizure types or how to respond with appropriate first aid. Consequently, persons with epilepsy or a seizure disorder often face social stigma and discrimination.
The Epilepsy and Seizure Disorder Resource Centre of Brockville and Area is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people affected by epilepsy and seizures in the local community. The centre's mission is to provide support and advocacy services for those affected by epilepsy and seizure disorders and to be a community resource for epilepsy and seizure education.
Please join the Epilepsy and Seizure Disorder Resource Centre, Brockville and Area office during the month of March in celebration of Epilepsy Awareness Month.
People all around the globe will be working together to raise awareness about Epilepsy and Seizure Disorders, let's work together here in Leeds and Grenville to do the same.
