Susan MacLaurin to discuss balance in life as BWB marks its first anniversary

EMC Events - Brockville Women in Business (BWB) celebrates its first anniversary on March 9, during International Women's Week.

BWB members have been meeting for lunch, networking and learning now for a full year. BWB will celebrate its anniversary and International Women's Day with flowers, food, fun and a special presentation by Susan MacLaurin, "Take Time for Me: Creating Balance."

Creating balance in their professional and personal lives can help women succeed in business.

MacLaurin challenges women to "find the river in their own life and surrender to its current." She believes if a woman doesn't take the time to discover who she is - what is important to her, her own raison d'etre - her life will feel unfulfilled.

MacLaurin has facilitated group learning and team building for more than 25 years in India, Australia, Mexico, the United States and across Canada. She recently retired from consulting and her work with the professional programs division of Sprott School of Business at Carleton University in Ottawa. She and her husband moved to Brockville in 2008.

Finding that balance in life is also a focus of International Women's Day (March 8). The idea for an International Women's Day (IWD) was proposed at an international conference of working women in Copenhagen in 1910 and the first International Women's Day was celebrated on March 19, 1911. The date was moved to March 8 in 1913. During International Women's Year in 1975, IWD was given official recognition by the United Nations and was taken up by many governments.

All women actively working or marketing their business in the Brockville area are invited to attend this special BWB anniversary celebration, Tuesday, March 9, at CJ's Banquet Hall, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The BWB luncheon meetings, held the second Tuesday of every month, starting at 11:30 a.m., are a chance for women to meet other business women, and to share expertise, experiences and successes in a supportive, business-oriented atmosphere.

Pre-registration for each luncheon meeting is required, to reserve a seat, e-mail bwbgroup@gmail.com. For more information about the group and this meeting, call Linda Moseley at 613-345-1120 or e-mail her at dannis@cogeco.ca.
