Darren Frost, a daring and eccentric standup comic who has carved out his niche on the cutting edge of comedy in Canada, will join two other headline acts from the renowned Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club during a fundraising performance held by the Kinsmen Club of Prescott.
EMC Entertainment - February can be a dreary month, but the Kinsmen Club of Prescott is aiming to put a little life back into it.

For 17 years, now, the local service club has been serving up laughs with the help of the world-renowned Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club, and this year's night of stand-up comedy is shaping up to be among the best.

"We happened to luck out that they had three of their best headliners passing through this region," says organizer and long-time Kinsmen member Art Hitsman.

On Feb. 18, the Royal Canadian Legion in Prescott will play host to three of the funniest guys working the circuit in Canada.

Rob Pue has been called a "must-see" by critics and reviewers who have taken in his shows and is described as one of the most witty and dynamic comedians in the country. When not doing his standup routine, Pue has appeared on the MTV series 'Punk'd' and has made several appearances on the Comedy Channel.

Mark Walker is one of the most celebrated stand-ups in the country and has made a big name for himself as one of the most talented impressionists in the business. He combines his celebrity satire with a razor-sharp wit that has kept audiences laughing both in Canada and internationally.

Darren Frost was twice awarded a place on Now Magazine's annual list of the Top Ten Moments in Canadian Comedy and has gained a reputation for smart, cutting and hilariously funny critiques of popular culture. Few are exempt from his barbs, and Frost pulls no punches when pointing out some of the insanity he sees around him.

As good as this year's show is likely to be, organizers are eager to see if it can best 2011, when a different lineup of Yuk Yuk's comics put on what most agree was one of the funniest shows the Kinsmen have ever hosted.

"I'm interested to see if they can top it this year," says Hitsman.

NEVER DISAPPOINTED

Regardless of the lineup, the audience never leaves the Legion disappointed. At the end of the show, all have smiles on their faces and many are still giggling over their favourite jibe or wisecrack.

Organizers of the Kinsmen's annual comedy night have made a point, year after year, of bringing in the best talent available, and that commitment to quality entertainment has earned the event a good name in the community.

"It is such a popular event," says Hitsman. "The tickets pretty much sell themselves."

All the money raised from ticket sales is donated to worthy community organizations or charities, and the Kinsmen try to spread the wealth around, choosing different beneficiaries every year.

"No money is kept by us or the Legion," says Hitsman. "It all goes back into the community, where it belongs."

Branch 97 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Prescott has donated the use of its Henry Street facility to the Kinsmen.

Though Hitsman hasn't quite decided on where the money will go this year, he's looking at Community and Primary Health Care (CPHC), whose members, he says, he has seen on many occasions hard at work in the community, and sports clubs for children.

Only twice in the comedy night's nearly 20-year history has it not sold out, and neither instance was in recent years, so Hitsman urges anyone interested in supporting a great cause while treating themselves to an evening of fun and laughter to get their tickets as soon as possible.

Tickets for the two-hour show are $15 apiece and are available at The Source or the Legion Hall, both in Prescott, or from Hitsman, who can be contacted by phone at 613-349-1315 or by email at artg.hitsman@canadapost.ca.

The event takes place on Saturday, Feb. 18 and the show begins at 8 p.m. The doors, and the bar, however, are open at 7 p.m.
